Heterogeneous nuclear reactor with beryllium compounds as coolants, in which the nuclear fuel is housed in cylindrical sheaths arranged in a regular polygonal reticular structure, the rods occupying the centre of each cell and the remainder of the cell being occupied by a fluid coolant material that contains beryllium, beryllium fluoride being the preferred material, and the side of the reticular polygon being less than the mean free path of the neutrons in said fluid coolant, the arrangement of said coolant having the result that there is no positive feedback between the coolant voids and the power of the reactor.
