The present invention relates to the use of a composition that comprises N-acetylcystin (NAC) for treating, preventing and/or aiding recovery from toxic effects in fish exposed to microcystins (MCs). The present invention also relates to the use of said composition in aiding recovery from the adverse histopathological changes occurring in tissue included in the list, which comprises: liver, kidney, heart, gills and/or gastrointestinal tract. Furthermore, said composition is used to produce a functional food, a vitamin supplement or a nutritional supplement.
