ELECTROPHORESIS OF TAILINGS SLUDGE USING ENDLESS CABLE WRAPS

Tailings pond suspension of fine solid particulates in water is separated intosolidsand clarified water using an endless wire rope anode wrapped multiple timesaroundtwo or more rollers to form closely spaced anode surfaces wherein cathodesurfaces,adjacent to but not in physical contact with the anode surfaces, causeelectrophoresisof the suspension due to low voltage high current DC excitation of theelectrodes inthe suspension to produce clarified water whilst solids are captured by theanodesurfaces and removed. Bitumen, if present in significant concentrationnormally isremoved from the suspension by means of an oleophilic apertured wall prior toelectrophoresis.
