Content and targeted advertisements are simultaneouslyprovided to a client. Upon receiving a request for content from the client, acontent provider requests a targeted advertisement from a transactionprocessor.The targeted advertisement is derived using a spending profilebased upon a history of cashless acquired merchant transactions made by aconsumer on an account, where the account has been associated with theconsumer by the content provider. The targeted advertisement is selectedfrom an advertisement database and is likely to attract the consumer'sattention,resulting in a purchase being made on the account. Once the targetedadvertisement is selected, it is received by the content provider andfitted to the dimensions of the advertising space. A page containing thetargeted advertisement and requested content is delivered to the clientwhere it is displayed on a display device and viewed by the consumer.
