The invention relates to a device for fixing a plate-shaped workpiece (1), in particular for holding the workpiece (1) during the machining thereof, comprising several vacuum suction devices (4) which form a contact surface and are designed as piston cylinders, each vacuum suction device (4) being provided with a piston rod (7) that can be moved into the direction of the workpiece (1) independently from the vacuum suction, wherein each vacuum suction device (4) comprises a cavity (6, 9), which is separated into two chambers by a piston (8) that guides the piston rod (7), and the piston rod (7) comprises a bore (10) which is axial relative to the workpiece (1) and open towards the cavity (6), and a connection (14) for connecting a vacuum generator. According to the invention, the cavity (6) can be evacuated by the vacuum generator, whereby the piston (8) and the piston rod (7) can be lifted.
