The present invention relates to a method for designing a user interface (IU) for a rich Internet application (RIA) from an existing web application generated by means of a web model, said user interface IU being specific to a particular device or set of devices and to a particular technological display platform. Said user interface is defined in three levels: a first interface level or abstract interface (2) which is a representation of the user interface common to any device and to any technological platform prepared to execute and support rich Internet applications; a second interface level or specific interface (3) which is a representation of the user interface specific to said device or set of particular devices; and a third interface level or final interface (4) which is a representation of the user interface specific to said device or set of particular devices and to said technological layout platform; each of these interface levels takes data from the previous level and from a component library (5).
