The present invention relates to a device for the quantitative detection of the presence or absence of a target analyte in a liquid sample, and to uses thereof. The invention further relates to a method for quantitative detecting the presence or absence of a target analyte in a sample consisting of less than 200 µl. Further the invention relates a system and a method for clustering or homogenously distributing a plurality of paramagnetic particles in a capillary channel. The system comprises a channel device and a magnetic device. The homogenously distribution was obtained by moving an external magnetic field of the magnetic device with field lines substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the channel. Thereby the accuracy and precision of a given assay was improved, especially for small quantities of analyte; background unspecific signal was reduced or eliminated; and the signal arising from the analyte was increased.
