PURPOSE: A method for generating a packet classification table by dividing an area and a packet classification method and a device thereof are provided to divide an area in consideration of a distribution property of rules, thereby improving search speed without increasing the number of entries. CONSTITUTION: A memory(510) stores a packet classification table which is generated in a tree structure. A packet classification controller(520) hierarchically searches the packet classification table according to the tree structure. The packet classification controller determines a BMR(Best Matchiong Rule) of an input packet. The tree structure classifies rules according to each area.
