FIELD: process engineering.;SUBSTANCE: proposed device comprises measuring unit with appliances to determine caliber surface position, electronic transducer to determine position and instrumentation to display data on revealed position. Preset-shape-and-size rolled stork is produced thanks to incorporating four inclined rods with caliber position determination appliance. Each of said rods is arranged on the axle turn thereon and vibrate thereabout. Note here that the end of every rod is provided with pusher to ensure contact with the surface of a pass that makes the caliber so that to determine pass position relative to central axis. Proposed method comprises installing appliance at the stand instead of the loader, parting the rods till contact with pass surfaces, determining four beam sections between pass surfaces and central axis of measuring unit. It comprises also pair-by-pair check of equality of said sections, displacing the slide by ball-head lever till said equality to produce precise positioning of centering wedge of stand loader relative to lower roller pass. Besides it includes, dismantling aforesaid appliance and mounting loader at the stand.;EFFECT: higher accuracy of centering loaders and calibers in rolling mill stand.;5 cl, 7 dwg
