The device has two separately movable supply units for separately supplying back lining strips to a head side (1a) and a base side of a book block, where the back lining strips are pasted with headbands (2) at outer edges of the book block. The back lining strips and the headbands are aligned to a head and a base of the book blocks and are transversely cut by a transverse cutter (8) according to the thickness of the book block. The back lining strips and the headbands are sized to a back side of the book block at contact sides.
