The fuel pump has a pump housing (3) in which a polygonal structure of a pump camshaft is arranged. A roller comprises a pump piston (1) and is guided in a hollow-cylindrical tappet body (6). The piston is guided in a pump cylinder head (2). The polygonal structure converts rotary motion of the camshaft into a translatory motion of the piston for sucking and compressing fuel at high pressure. The tappet body comprises a slotted hole-like recess (9). A pin (8) is positioned in the housing and is inclined to a movement axis of the piston. The piston engages with a tip of the pin in the recess.
