Experimental Evaluation of Digital Pump/Motor Operating Strategies with a Single-Piston Pump/Motor

A digital pump/motor with high-speed on/off valves is being developed as an alternative to state-of-the-art swashplate and bent-axis units. A single-piston test stand has been developed to explore different digital pump/motor operating strategies. In this work, a two-stage valve, capable of operating as a bi-directional check valve, and one check valve are utilized on a single-piston pump/motor to demonstrate the capability of operating in flow-diverting and flow-limited pumping strategies.
