The process comprises diverting laser beams or laser beam pulses delivered from a laser source (18) by a scanner unit at predetermined points (22, 22'), transmitting control commands according to control tables stored in a memory unit to the laser source and the scanner unit, sequentially transporting components to be treated in a processing area of a laser system (16), where the control table in the memory unit is assigned to each of the components (14), detecting an identification parameter of the component to be processed by the laser system. The process comprises diverting laser beams or laser beam pulses delivered from a laser source (18) by a scanner unit at predetermined points (22, 22'), transmitting control commands according to control tables stored in a memory unit to the laser source and the scanner unit, sequentially transporting components to be treated in a processing area of a laser system (16), where the control table in the memory unit is assigned to each of the components (14), detecting an identification parameter of the component to be processed by the laser system. A processing parameter set is selected for a certain motor vehicle to be fabricated from several components. The control table assigns the identification parameter to each component to be treated according to the processing parameter set with the laser system and a control unit is provided for use. The control table and the assignment are transmitted to the memory unit. The processing parameter set is selected from predetermined processing parameter sets. A design or a graphic is detected and the processing parameter set is provided on the basis of the detected design or graphic. By impacting the laser beams or laser beam pulses at the predetermined points, a surface (12) of the component is area-wisely removed at the predetermined points, a chemical reaction is caused in a surface coating of the component at the predetermined points to cause color change, two layers are intermixed to the surface coating, a predetermined microstructure is produced on the surface of the component and a surface or surface layer is partially fused at the predetermined points.
