The invention relates to a system (10, 10 ') for the fully automated picking of articles (52, 52', 52 ''), which are preferably stored in storage loading equipment (70, 72), in order loading equipment (34) according to a picking order, comprising: a first conveyor (18), which conveys a plurality of articles to be picked (52) in the form of a stream of articles downstream to an unmanned picking station (37) with fully automatic gripping unit (30); at least one, in particular cover-mounted, raisable and lowerable gripping unit (30) for gripping one, in particular a single, arbitrary article (52) from the stream at a receiving point (62) within a gripping area (56) on the first conveyor (18) and for transferring the gripped article (52) to a dispensing point (60) outside the gripping area (56), the receiving point (62) and the dispensing point (60) being within a, preferably nearly circular, working area (54) of the gripping unit (30) and wherein, in translating, the arbitrary article (52) is lifted vertically from the stream, displaced substantially horizontally, and then moved vertically downwardly, the gripping unit (30) being capable of gripping and transferring up to 1500 articles per hour; a control unit (31; 69) that coordinates gripping and translating movements of the gripping unit (30) so as to grasp and translate predetermined articles (52) of the stream individually; and a ...
