The vehicle heater (10) has a fuel supply (12) comprising a jet pump (16) that sucks combustion air (22) from a combustion air supply (14). The fuel supply has an evaporator (18) for evaporation of supplied liquid fuel (20). The evaporator is heated by combustion heat and/or by a heating device (24) that is electrically designed. A sensor for detecting pollutants is arranged in a flow of exhaust gas (44) of the vehicle heater. The evaporator is arranged in an inner side of a housing (38). An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a fuel-operated vehicle heater.
