The lamp has a gas discharge lamp burner (50) and an operational electronics unit (920) that includes an inverter (9220) for operating the gas discharge lamp burner with a low-frequency square-wave current. The electronics unit straightens a discharge arc such that a high-frequency alternating current is modulated onto a low-frequency square-wave current. The electronics unit includes a measuring unit for measuring impedance of the burner over a frequency range from a minimum frequency to a maximum frequency, and a memory for storing the frequency of minimum impedance of the burner. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating an integrated gas discharge lamp.
