The treatment is suitable for the hem (2) and/or waistband of an article of textile clothing (1). The effect of wear is produced intentionally in at least one part of an end section of the article. Dye or pigment adhering to or contained within the end section is at least partially removed by the impact of a liquid jet. The liquid pressure is preferably in the range 80-160 bar and its temperature is 10-40[deg] C. The jet cross section is e.g. round, elliptical, polygonal, diamond-shaped or trapezoidal. The angle included between the jet and the textile surface tangent is preferably 15[deg] . Wear is produced by e.g. wash stones, rollers and/or emery paper. The clothing is completed or half-manufactured. It is e.g. a stocking, skirt, shirt, jacket or coat. The textile contains cotton or is made from denim. Before producing the worn appearance, the textile is secured by positioning and fixing in a holder. After jetting to induce wear, the liquid is at least part-removed by thermal treatment. To make clothing with the separately-treated end section, it is first washed, the hem or band is then produced on the end section, followed by jetting treatment as described. The equipment used includes a holder of cylindrical- or other geometrical form. The cross section is variable. It can be rotated and heated. The circumferential surface includes passage openings into the interior. An independent claim IS INCLUDED FOR corresponding equipment used to treat clothing hems or waistbands.
