The subject matter of the invention is the use of vinylphosphonic acid or a salt thereof for improving the biodegradability of copolymers which, from 25 to 99,5 w -% structural units of one or more monomers selected from the group consisting of compounds of the formula 1 Formula 3 wherein r¹ and r² independently of one another are hydrogen or c₁-C.₄-Alkyl, formula 4 where n is 3, 4 or 5, andFormula 5 wherein x is oh or for nr³R⁴ , and r³ and r⁴ independently of one another are h or c₁- to c₄-Alkyl, in that, in the copolymer 0,5 to 25 w -% of vinylphosphonic acid in copolymerized form.
