The method involves randomly determining a subset depending on parameters with respect to transformed image points of an image captured by a camera (2) and determined during application of a mapping rule on selected image points of the subset or during computation of the mapping rule. The transformed image points are computed using the computed mapping rule. Another subset is randomly determined depending on parameters with respect to the transformed image points and correspondence image points that are assigned to the transformed points. The mapping rule is utilized for tracing an object.
