The device has a bumper-transverse beam (10) fixed at a longitudinal carrier (8) of a front end unit. The transverse beam is provided with a deformation element (11) and positioned behind a body shell, which is made of plastic. A mounting carrier (6) is provided behind a fairing unit (2) or a bumper lining (3), and below a front flap (4) of a vehicle for mounting a radiator and radiator fan. An additional deformation element (13) is provided above the bumper-transverse beam and between the fairing unit and the mounting carrier and made of a u-shaped curved metal tube.
