A refrigerant (2,3) circulates in a coolant circuit with the means of compressing and expanding a refrigerant. The coolant circuit has a means of transferring energy between the refrigerant before expansion and the refrigerant before compression. The means for transferring energy is a heat-exchanger (18). The means of compression is a compressor (4) and the means of expansion is an expansion valve (5). An additional refrigerant circulates in an additional coolant circuit with additional means of compression and expansion of an additional coolant. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a heat pump.
