The method involves determining actual position of a vehicle (1). The relative position of vehicle with other vehicles (3, 4) is compared. Pedestrians (5) or stationary objects e.g. communication network (6) such as portable radio network, traffic system (8) and light signal system (9), are determined by a position determining unit (2) e.g. mobile telephone, in the vehicle. The vehicle is in communication with a position determining unit of other vehicles and pedestrian and/or in communication with a stationary position determining unit i.e. base unit (7), or a position transmission center. An independent claim is also included for a position determining unit comprising a position transmitting and/or receiving unit.
