The device has traction elements (11) i.e. elastic cords, arranged at two opposite sides of a luggage compartment. The traction elements are connected on one-side to a luggage compartment cover (8) and on another-side to a rear flap (4). Two lateral retaining elements (14) connect the traction elements to the rear flap. The retaining elements are attached to the rear flap such that the retaining elements are arranged at an outer side of a pivoting area of the luggage compartment cover in a lateral direction of a motor vehicle (1). Two shells are arranged at both sides of the rear flap.
