An improved method for producing pressurized oxygen, without costly compressors by evaporating liquid oxygen using heat exchanger blocks. The liquid oxygen is applied at a pressure of more than 6 bar onto blocks made of copper, nickel or their alloys. The pressurized oxygen is drawn off downstream of the blocks. The blocks are shaped for optimum flow and are heated by hot liquid feeds. The copper alloys have a copper content of more than 80 percent while the nickel alloys have a nickel content of more than 65 percent.
