PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for measuring the height of a linear object accurately detecting the height of a linear object from image data created by taking in reflected light from the linear object, without being influenced by the background. PSOLUTION: The linear object 11 (inspection target) is irradiated with incident light i by a lighting 13, and the reflected light j is captured by a camera 14 to generate image data. The axes of the incident light i and reflected light j substantially coincides with each other. A grey level image storage part 17 stores the image data generated by the camera 14 as grey level image data. A linear object detection part 18 detects the linear object 11 based on the grey level image data. A height measurement range determination part 19 determines a height measurement range of the linear object not to exceed an occupied area of the linear object 11, based on information of the linear object 11 detected by the linear object detection part 18.
