PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHAs), by which PHAs can stably efficiently be produced at a low cost even when contaminated with other bacteria, without an amino acid or the like, while the addition of the amino acid such as expensive sodium glutamate to a culture medium is essential for the highly efficient culture of a Halomonas strain which is a hopeful PHAs-producing bacterium.;SOLUTION: The method for producing PHAs includes proliferating a halophilic bacterium in a culture medium not containing a composite organic compound such as an amino acid and containing an inorganic salt and one or more single organic carbon sources at pH 8.8 to 11 to produce the PHAs in an amount of not less than 85 wt.% based on the weight of dried bacterial cells.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
