PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve accuracy in specification or the like of an odor generation source and an odor cause in an iron manufacturing factory.;SOLUTION: Two kinds of reference odors of tar odor and coke odor are measured previously, respective reference odor vectors are created in a six-dimensional space formed of detected outputs of six odor sensors 31-36, and data representing them is stored in a storage section 53. A vector operation section 52 creates an odor vector similarly in measuring an unknown odor. An index value calculation section 54 determines each angle between the odor vector and each reference odor vector, and calculates the similarity rate with respect to each reference odor on the basis of the angles. Furthermore, an olfaction characteristic correcting section 55 corrects the similarity rate utilizing correction information according to the difference between the previously obtained selectivity by olfaction and the sensor output selectivity. A discriminating section 56 compares two corrected similarity rates with each other to determine which reference odor is close to the unknown odor, and specifies it as the odor cause.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
