PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of detecting the abnormality of an AC-AC converter which enables the protection of a switching element, etc. by accurately detecting that an input output terminal is connected reversely without needing a dedicated detecting circuit thereby facilitating the cause investigation at abnormality.;SOLUTION: In an AC-AC converter such as a matrix converter 20 which converts the voltage of an AC power source into AC voltage of arbitrary magnitude and frequency prior to output, etc., the state of reverse connection that regular output terminals U, V and W are connected to the side of an AC power source 10 and that regular input terminals R, S and T are connected to the side of a load 60, is detected, using the information on AC voltage applied to the regular input terminals R, S, and T of the matrix converter 20 and the information on rectified voltage applied to the regular output terminals U, V and W of the matrix converter 20.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
