PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure wear resistance and simultaneously improve toughness an to prolong the service life of a rail by controlling the content of AlN in rail steel in a specified range.;SOLUTION: In the pearlitic rail with excellent wear resistance and toughness, the content of AlN in the steel rail is 0.010-0.040 mass% and the metallic structure in the region ranging from the railhead corners and railhead surface of the above steel rail to a position at a depth of at least 20 mm is composed of pearlitic structure.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2002,JPO
