PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device that prevents a decrease in productivity despite a temperature rise in an end potion and also protects the device from an abnormal state such as a malfunction, and to provide its control method and an image forming apparatus having the fixing device.;SOLUTION: The fixing device include: a circuit that detects an excessive temperature rise based upon temperature detection signals inputted to a power determination circuit 104 and a shield plate position determination circuit 103; and a safety protective circuit 105 that compares specific two outputs and transmits a stop signal when the result of the comparison exceeds a specific temperature difference.
