PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve fuel consumption by reducing the consumption of operating oil for lubricating pressure in a hydraulic control device for a continuously variable transmission, and reducing the discharge oil quantity and mechanical loss of an oil pump.;SOLUTION: The continuously variable transmission has a primary pulley 15 and a secondary pulley 16 with a belt 17 stretched between them. A primary cylinder provided at the primary pulley 15 is provided with a driving oil chamber 23a and a balancing oil chamber 23b for eliminating centrifugal oil pressure generated in the driving oil chamber 23a. The driving oil chamber 23a is supplied with operating oil of primary pressure regulated by a primary valve with line pressure from an oil pump as initial pressure, and drain from a drain port of the primary valve 41 is supplied to the balancing oil chamber 23b through a balancing oil passage 71 to reduce the quantity of oil supplied to a lubricating pressure path.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
