A portable aerosol extinguisher, comprising: - a housing (3) with an internal chamber (4) to accommodate a load (5) of solid substance, which can be transformed, at a predetermined temperature, into an aerosol with extinguishing properties of flames, - an ejection opening (7a) that is located at a distal end of the extinguisher and that puts the chamber (4) in communication with the outside, - starting means for triggering the reaction of the extinguishing charge (5), the starting means comprising an explosive starting capsule (10) and a firing pin mechanism (13) associated therewith; characterized in that the starting means (10, 13) are located at said distal end of the extinguisher and near the distal end (5a) of the load (5) to trigger the chemical reaction of the load (5) from the distal end.
