The present invention relates to compounds which bind selectively to theadhesion molecule human P-selectin, and particularly to such compoundscomprising a peptide with an amino acid sequence XAxA3A1A2A1Y, or a functionalequivalent of said peptide. In addition, the invention relates to methods forpreparing such compounds, to the use of such compounds in therapeutic ordiagnostic methods and in pharmaceutical compositions, to nucleic acidsencoding for proteinaceous materials comprising the amino acid sequences ofsaid compounds, to gene delivery vehicles comprising such nucleic acids, tobinding molecules binding to said compounds, and to a method for determiningwhether a compound is capable of binding to P-selectin.
