The invention relates to a proton exchangemembrane fuel cell comprising:- a cathodic compartment comprising a cathode, anoxidant consisting of oxygen and at least one enzymecatalyst;- an anodic compartment comprising an anode, afuel and at least one catalyst, said anodic andcathodic compartments being arranged at either end ofsaid membrane, said cell being characterised in thatsaid enzyme catalyst of the cathodic compartment is anoxidoreductase type enzyme, said enzyme being capableof catalysing the reduction of oxygen into hydrogenperoxide, said hydrogen peroxide fulfilling the role ofdirect acceptor of the electrons from the cathode.
