The present invention provides a method and an apparatus for abstractinglogicaltopology information of a Peer-to-Peer (P2P) network. The method includes:obtaining a setof Points of Presence (POPs) of peer clients in the P2P network; using arelevant algorithm ofa routing protocol in the P2P network to calculate a best path between any twoPOPs in the setof POPs and a weight value of the best path; and collecting calculationresults of the best pathand the weight value that are obtained on each POP to obtain a set of abstractlogical topologyrecords of the P2P network. The embodiments of the present invention provide auniversaland efficient method for abstracting logical topology information, whichgreatly reducesnetwork topology information that needs to be transmitted, mitigates a risk ofexposinglower-layer network topology information, and transmits the network topologyinformation toa P2P application server securely and concisely.
