The invention is to enable an even better agreement of the actually created shape with the target ablation profile. 2.2 A position of a (current) vertex of the surface to be ablated relative to an optical axis of the laser is determined and used for generating the irradiation control data. According to the invention, it was found that by considering the actual position of the vertex relative to the optical axis of the laser, the accuracy of a surface ablation, in particular of a laser surgical treatment of the cornea, can be improved, if said vertex and an ocularly fixed reference point, such as the puncture point of the optical axis through the surface of the cornea, do not coincide. 2.3 The invention can be used in ophthalmology.
