Procedure for isolating genes involved in the biosynthesis of streptolydigin, molecules of DNA, genetic manipulation of the route and uses thereof. The invention provides a procedure for isolating and purifying a fragment of nucleic acid containing the gene grouping of the streptolydigin biosynthesis route. Additionally it provides molecules of nucleic acid, molecules of recombinant nucleic acid, polypeptides encoded by these molecules, host cells containing these molecules and uses thereof. Moreover it provides a process for increasing production of tetramic metabolites in a bacterial host, a process for generating derivatives of streptolydigin or precursors of streptolydigin and uses thereof. Furthermore an object of the invention is a recombinant strain of Streptomyces lydicus and the derivatives of streptolydigin produced thereby. Applicable in the obtainment of superproducer strains of streptolydigin or derivatives of streptolydigin for isolation and utilisation thereof, inter alia in the pharmaceutical or chemical sector.
