Method for isolating genes involved in the biosynthesis of streptolydigin, DNA molecules, genetic manipulation of the route and their uses. The invention provides a method of isolating and purifying a nucleic acid fragment containing the gene cluster of biosynthetic pathway streptolydigin. Also provides nucleic acid molecules, nucleic acid molecules of recombinant polypeptides encoded by these molecules, host cells containing these molecules and their uses. Also provides a process for increased production of metabolites tetramic in a bacterial host, a process for generating derivatives or precursors streptolydigin streptolydigin and their uses. It is also object of the invention a recombinant strain of Streptomyces lydicus and derivatives streptolydigin produces. Application in obtaining overproducing strains streptolydigin or derivatives estreptolidiginapara isolation and use, among others, in the pharmaceutical or chemical industry.
