An absorbent product intended particularly for use as a wound dressing comprises an admixture of carboxymethyl chitosan and chitosan wherein the chitosan incorporates at least one antimicrobial agent. Absorbeney is provided by the carboxymethyl chitosan and antimicrobial properties by the antimicrobial agent incorporated in the chitosan.
