The method involves reading location information with respect to locations of transmission devices of traffic data transmitters from location lists, respectively. An actual geographical position and a driving direction of a vehicle are determined. Accessed distances between the vehicle and the locations of the transmission devices are detected from the location information, and the determined actual geographical position and driving direction of the vehicle. The traffic data transmitters for which the small accessed distance is detected are selected. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for setting a transmission device location list (2) a control device for executing one of a method for selecting traffic data transmitter from a set of traffic data transmitters and a method for setting a transmission device location list (3) a computer program product with program codes stored on a machine-readable medium for executing steps of a method for selecting traffic data transmitter from a set of traffic data transmitters and a method for setting a transmission device location list.
