The device has a housing (2) including a housing wall (1) with an opening that is designed as a stepped bore. A pressure compensation element is arranged in the opening and formed as a gas-permeable and liquid-impermeable diaphragm (10) by a circulating edge area of the opening. The diaphragm lies on an annular shoulder formed between layers of the stepped bore. A ring-type sealing insert surrounds a small layer (5) of the bore and axially protrudes to the diaphragm, where the sealing insert exhibits an inner diameter that is larger than the small layer of the bore.
