The device (OE) has tracking markers e.g. electromagnetic tracking coils, X-ray markers (DR, ER, ZR) and magnetic resonance markers or optical markers (OM), and a reference unit (ERE) provided with two image markers. The device consists of a material e.g. carbon and/or plastic, that is transparent to X-ray imaging and/or magnetic resonance imaging. The reference unit comprises a side arm (DS) that is variably arranged. The side arm is positioned in a space-saving parking position at the orientation device. One of the X-ray markers is attached to the side arm.
