The device has a detector (4) for detecting X-rays emitted by an X-ray tube (3). A control logic (10) distributes predetermined X-ray intensities in non-uniform manner on main emission directions along a circular arc path relative to a patient`s breast. The logic processes X-ray image data representing the main emission directions and acquired by the detector for forming two-dimensional and three-dimensional images of the patient`s breast. The processed image data are transmitted to a processing unit via the logic for construction of three-dimensional volume of the patient`s breast. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating an X-ray device.
