The system has a light source for producing a light spot lattice. A collimating lens is provided for projection of the light spot lattice on an object i.e. patient. An evaluation unit is provided for determination of a position of the light spot lattice in recorded images and for computation of the position and/or orientation of the object based on the position of the light spot lattice. The light source for production of the light spot lattice is arranged outside of tracking volumes and connectable by optical elements. A camera (4) is provided for imaging an image.
