The thermal engine (1) has a rotor (2) rotatable around an axis of rotation (3), and an energy storage (13) arranged at the rotor, where the energy storage is attached to a shape memory element (9) i.e. wire, of the rotor. The shape memory element is movable between a heat source (4) and a heat sink (5) by rotating the rotor. The energy storage is chargeable in the heat source by changing shape of the shape memory element and dischargeable at a defined peripheral position (18) outside of the heat source. Blocking units (15) are attached at the energy storage.
