The vehicle i.e. straddle carrier (PHW), has a sensor (S) for detecting accident occurrence, and a safety device for a driver cell (FZ). A control device (ST) includes an evaluation circuit that controls a control circuit depending on a signal e.g. digital or analog signal, of the sensor. The control circuit transmits an actuation signal to the safety device depending on the sensor signal such that the safety device is operated, where the actuation signal is produced based on a standby condition. The sensor detects a tilting process of the vehicle. The sensor is designed as an inertial sensor, rotation rate sensor and/or a distance sensor e.g. ultrasonic sensor, radar sensor and light detection and ranging sensor. An independent claim is also included for a method for outputting an actuation signal to a safety device of a vehicle.
