The device (1) has an acoustic microphone (2) and an acceleration sensor (3). Output of a control signal (12) is provided to an electronic device (5) e.g. laptop, for initiating of safety function depending on a signal (10) of the microphone and on a signal (14) of the acceleration sensor. The signal (10) is provided to an arrangement with a defined threshold, where the signal (10) generates a sensitivity profile that determines sensitivity for evaluating the signal (14). The safety function is provided for data backup of the electronic device. An independent claim is also included for a method for initiating a safety function.
