The method involves sliding a sensor (10) relative to an output magnet (12) along a sliding path. A measurement signal indicating space between the sensor and magnet is detected during movement of the sensor and magnet. The sensor regulation position is calculated based on the measurement signal and displayed. The sensor is fixed to the regulation position. An independent claim is included for magnetic sensor.
