The method involves placing a magnet (2) at a linear movable object (3). Two reverberation sensors (1) are placed within a surrounding field of the object. The object is linearly moved with the magnet at the reverberation sensors. Tensions induced by the magnet in the sensors are detected based on the linear movement of the object. Position signals corresponding to the tensions are provided with respect to the object. An independent claim is also included for a positioning device for positioning of a linear movable object.
