The method involves receiving position data of an object (4) by a receiving device of a vehicle (1), and calculating a position of the object based on the received position data. A determination is made whether the calculated position data is within a predetermined detection region (3) of a sensor (2), and a parameter of roadway geometry is determined. An instantaneous detection area (9) of the sensor is determined based on the determined position of the object when the object is not detected by the sensor.
